LG has revealed it’s hoping to bring western messenger app integration to its HomeChat platform.
Eugene Yoo, LG’s General manager for Strategic Alliance and Investment Smart Business Centre, explained that the South Korean firm is in talks with messaging services in the US and Europe.
“We’re actively talking to many popular messaging services,” said Yoo. “We’re also looking for European partners there as well."
Yoo was speaking at this year’s LG InnoFest in Lisbon, Portugal, showcasing the firm’s plans for Europe in 2015, and putting a big focus on HomeChat.
LG already has Japan’s LINE messenger on board for HomeChat, but this latest revelation could mean the firm is trying to woo more familiar services like WhatsApp and Kik.
The idea is that chat apps make the HomeChat smart home platform feel much more natural to users in terms of inputting commands.
Unfortunately, Yoo remained tight-lipped on which specific services would be involved with the HomeChat platform in the future.

LG announced its HomeChat system last year, offering up a way to easily communicate with a singular ecocsystem for all of your smart home goodies.
It’s a direct rival to Samsung’s own ‘Smart Home’ service, signalling that the big tech firms are really taking the Internet of Things seriously this year.
