Snapdonate is a new app that looks to revolutionise the way you throw cash at deserving causes.
The British nonprofit is teaming up with UK charities in hopes of creating a one-stop platform to donate your dosh.
It works by registering charity logos via your smartphone camera, in much the same way as QR code reading.
Charities send over their logos to Snapdonate, the nonprofit then sticks it on the app’s partner roster, and voila – easy peasy philanthropy.
This means that when you spy a particularly heart-warming (or heart-breaking) poster or billboard, you can scan it with your smartphone and send over a bit of cash.
Mark Warrick, Snapdonate’s founder and CTO, called the app a ‘gift to society’, describing it as ‘pure and simple’.
It’s also set to work offline too, so you can do your bit for humanity on the morning tube.
You can give as much as you like, although donations are set at a minimum of £2.
Nick Georgiadis, Cancer Research UK’s head of Direct Giving, welcomes the new tech, stating: “In a society that is increasingly moving away from cash as a way of conducting payments, it’s important charities make use of innovative ways for supporters to donate.”
“Any technology solution that makes charity giving easier and straightforward is welcomed,” said Georgiadis. “Snapdonate will increase the options for tech-savvy donors looking to support Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.”
