Skylanders Trap Team

Skylanders Trap Team is official and aheading for a Q4 release

Activision has officially announced the latest instalment to its much loved Skylanders franchise, with Skylanders Trap Team unveiled ahead of an October 10 UK release date.

Taking the ‘toys to life’ gaming series in a new direction, Skylanders Trap Team will let gamers flip things on their head and bring life to toys, ‘trapping’ in-game villains within physical toy ‘Traps’.

Marking the return of Skyland’s pesky villain Kaos – who has now freed all his wrong-doing cohorts from Cloudcracker Prison – Trap Team will see gamers tasked with finding and capturing all the villainous foes, ‘trapping’ them in physical traps which can be inserted into the new portal.

Adding a new dimension of action and mystery to the Skylanders series, the gaming experience will add a further dimension with the new gaming portal now featuring inbuilt speakers.

Players will experience an exciting new level of Skylanders innovation through the Traptanium Portal, a new ring of magical energy which reverses the magic of the toys to life category by letting players bring digital characters into the physical world,” publisher Activision said of the game.

“A built-in audio speaker allows players to magically hear the unique voices of the villains travel from the game into the real world Trap, and vice versa. The Trap also lights up in sync with the villain speaking, adding even more magic to the experience.”

With a Skylanders Trap Team release date having been set for October 10 in the UK (October 5 stateside), the game will introduce more than 50 new playable Skylanders characters – and corresponding toys – including a group of ‘Trap Masters’ which all feature oversized crystal weapons.

The game will be available for the Xbox One and PS4, although past consoles have not been overlooked.

Skylanders Trap Team will also be made available for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U and 3DS games.

Getting gamers into the action, a ‘Starter Pack’ bundle will be available for £64.99, pairing the game with the new speaker packing portal, a Skylander and Trap Master toy and a pair of Traps.

Having been treated to an early look at the game, we can say that Skylanders Trap Team maintains the franchise’s now customary combination of action, wonder and humour. We can’t wait for a chance to play.
