Toys for Bob talks developing for new consoles
With the Xbox One and PS4 having now been on retailers’ shelves for almost six months, games designers have suggested developing for next-gen consoles is ‘not that much different’ to working on their predecessors.
As developers begin their first cycle of creating games with the Xbox One and PS4 at the forefront of plans, Skylanders developer Toys for Bob has claimed there are many similarities in working on last and next-gen consoles.
“In the long run, it is not that much different working with the architecture of a new platform,” Jeff Poffenbarger, an Executive Producer at Toys for Bob said speaking with TrustedReviews.
Despite only small changes in the approach developers must take, Poffenbarger has suggested that as gamers continue to transition between consoles, the challenges now rest in ensuring games offer similar experiences across old and new devices.
“For us we want to create the same experience across the board,” the Executive Producer told us.
He added: “Obviously the visual fidelity on the PS4 and Xbox One is going to be much higher – your frame rate might be higher and you can have a better resolution – but what we want to have is an experience that is largely the same across all platforms.
“You have to go all the way from the Wii to the PS4 and we want it to be largely the same because we don’t want someone to have an inferior experience on the Wii.”
Poffenbarger was speaking at the launch for Skylanders Trap Team, the latest instalment to the toys to life gaming franchise which has proven a global hit with younger gamers.
