Be smart, your nan is watching your Facebook account
Your grannie could soon be sending you a friend request as senior phones specialist Doro reveals Facebook and WhatsApp are the most popular apps with the older smartphone user.
Stepping away from Werther’s Originals and knitting patterns, Doro has claimed that pensioners are now turning – slowly and with the aid of a stick – to globally popular social media and messaging services.
“Facebook and WhatsApp are the most downloaded apps,” Pratul Shah, Doro’s Business Development Manager said speaking following the launch of its first senior-targeted smartphone.
Worryingly, this trend of OAP Facebook users could be about to grow too. The handset manufacturer has suggested that senior smartphone ownership is on the rise.
"45 per cent of seniors are looking to buy a smartphone at their next phone upgrade,” Shah told us.
Don’t worry though, your morning commute isn’t about to be plagued with Angry Birds playing pensioners. According to Doro access to smartphone capabilities doesn’t mean they will be fully utilised.
“Even when buying a smartphone the top three things senior users want to do is phone, send texts and use the camera.” He added: “The next two things are email and internet.”
