The previously leaked Xbox 720 specs have been seemingly backed up by a Microsoft job listing for a software development engineer.
The job listing is looking for a software development engineer to work on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, but what’s interesting is that experience with the x86 architecture is a “desirable” attribute.
Specs for the Xbox 720 or codename Xbox Durango, originally leaked online in late January, suggesting the Xbox 720 could pack similar specs to the PS4.
Sony’s PS4 console was unveiled at a dedicated event in February and was shown to have an eight-core x86-64 AMD Jaguar CPU with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM and a GPU capable of reaching 1.84 teraFLOPS.
If Microsoft wants to keep pace with such a rival console, the as yet unannounced Xbox 720 will need to offer a similar specs sheet. The job listing does seem to back up the rumours that the Xbox 720 will offer the same x86 CPU as the PS4, which will stand it in good stead if it is ever launched.
Xbox 720 Rumours
Tipped to be released sometime in the Christmas period of this year, Microsoft has remained tight lipped about its next-generation console.
The Xbox 720 could feature a fixed hard drive rather than the modular HDD design used in the Xbox 360, and play host to the remodelled Kinect 2 motion sensor gaming peripheral.
Also rumoured to pack two separate CPUs, the Xbox 720 could have dedicated gaming and multimedia processors as well as incorporating the long-rumoured Xbox TV streaming service and 3D technology.
Recent reports have suggests the Xbox 720 could launch on May 21, with a release date lying somewhere in November.
It has also been suggested that the Xbox 720 could make its presence known at the E3 2013 gaming conference in Los Angeles.
