Turtle Beach to launch official PS4 headsets later this year

Turtle Beach has announced a deal with Sony to launch the official PS4 headsets later this year.

If you’re at all into gaming headsets, then you’ll be very familiar with Turtle Beach. In fact, the company already produces the official Xbox One headsets.

Now, Turtle Beach has announced it has inked a deal with Sony to launch the official PS4 gaming headsets.

The official PS4 headsets will be launched in the summer, with a release date pencilled in for some time in the autumn.

There will be headsets for tournament level gamers right down to the gaming and entertainment enthusiasts. We expect the company will launch both wired and wireless headset options for the PS4.

Turtle Beach has also confirmed that the PS4 headsets can also be used to plug into the PlayStation Vita handheld console, for PS Vita gaming or when utilising the PS4’s Remote Play feature.

“Turtle Beach is excited to work with Sony to create headsets for the PlayStation 4 system,” said Turtle Beach CEO, Juergen Stark. “Audio is an important part of the next-generation PlayStation experience, and our emphasis on versatile, multi-platform headsets will ensure consumers have an optimal experience across their PlayStation 4 console and PlayStation Vita companion devices.”

The company has also announced that is launching a new PS4 Upgrade Kit that will allow users to plug existing headsets into the PS4’s optical port for game audio.

This Upgrade Kit is a USB-powered converter that takes the audio from the optical SPDIF connection and then outputs it through a 3.5mm stereo. There’s also a 2.5mm to 3.5mm chat cable for chat audio.

The PS4 Upgrade Kit will launch in Q2 2014 for under $40.

UK pricing for all of the upcoming PS4 accessories has yet to be announced.
