Polar V800 GPS sports watch launched into a crowded market

Polar has launched the Polar V800, which it is calling its smartest and most advanced training computer.

Well known for its fitness and health products, Polar unveiled its latest training device at CES and says the V800 is designed for those engaging in multiple activities.

The Polar V800 offers integrated GPS and monitors your activity 24 hours a day, aiming to help you understand your training and work out your recovery requirements.

Integrated GPS tracks your speed, distance and maps your route, with the watch able to offer multiple sport training profiles.

It features a hybrid transmitter that is capable of reading your heart rate even when you’re in the water, which is especially useful as it is waterproof to 30m/100ft.

Polar’s latest bit of kit can also provide accurate altitude readings via its integrated barometric pressure sensor.

The Smart Calories feature tracks the amount of calories burnt and Running Index charts how your running performance is developing over time. You can view up to four weeks of data from the smart sports watch itself.

Compatible with existing Polar Bluetooth Smart running and cycling sensors, the V800 connects to the Polar Flow app to allow fitness planning and analysis.

The battery life should offer 14 hours of training on a single charge, but it can last 50 hours in low power GPS mode, or up to 30 days just on standby.

The Polar V800 will retail for $449.95 (£275) or for $499.95(£305) with a heart rate monitor. It will start shipping in April.
