GTA 5 demands mandatory installs; PC, Xbox One and PS4 versions still in the wind

Rockstar Games has outlined several new GTA 5 details including a mandatory Xbox 360 and PS3 install, but fails to offer any further details on next-gen or PC releases.

GTA 5 will require a mandatory install on the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles, due to the sheer size and scale of the upcoming Rockstar title.

“Grand Theft Auto 5 is the largest and most ambitious game we have yet created”, explains the Rockstar blog post. “In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems.”

The Xbox 360 GTA 5 edition will even come with a separate installation disc that the users will have to run before they can play the game, whereas the PS3 version is confined to one disc but will automatically install to the hard drive when inserted.

“For Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto 5 will ship on two discs; Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. For PlayStation 3, the game ships on one disc and will install content as soon as you insert the game. The install is roughly 8GB, and players will be able to play as soon as the install is complete.”

Rockstar has been very tight-lipped about a GTA 5 release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and has remained so in this latest Asked and Answered session on the Rockstar Blog.

“The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 which are set for a September 17 worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.”

In order to quench gamers’ thirst prior to the GTA 5 release date in September, Rockstar Games has confirmed that a GTA 5 gameplay video is “on its way”.
