Can't wait for a taste?

If you're wondering when the latest version of Android is coming to your Motorola handset, the answer is "really soon".

Luciano Carvalho, a software engineer at Motorola, posted on Google Plus that the company was working "really hard" on bringing Lollipop to its devices, "and, as promised, our Moto products from 2014 and 2013 will be updated to Lollipop really soon".

The software update has already come to a few Motorola devices, including the Moto X 2014, but plenty are left wanting. While Carvalho doesn't name the devices, we can assume they include the Moto E, Moto X 2013, Moto G 2013 and Moto G 2014.

Why the delay? It seems bugs in the software are to blame.

"Updates of this nature take time," Carvalho wrote. "It's no secret that when 5.0 launched it still had bugs. And, when we updated our products, we end up finding more bugs that need to be fixed.

"There are a lot of reasons for what [sic] that happen, but, basically, each phone has a unique set of components and a way they interact. When Google creates a new release, they don't validate it for all the possible combinations there are, and they won't fix anything that's not reproducible on a Nexus device, that's our job."

Lollipop launched at the end of last year. It's on less than 0.1 per cent of Android devices, according to the latest figures, which is pitiful. No wonder Apple takes the micky.
