Addison Lee to bring free in-car 4G Wi-Fi to entire fleet

Premium minicab company Addison Lee has confirmed plans to bring free 4G Wi-Fi to its 4,800 strong fleet of London-based cars.

Having been trialled in around 150 cars over the past couple of months, Addison Lee has confirmed the complimentary high-speed internet will now be rolled out to its full complement of vehicles.

The 4G introduction is already underway and is due to be completed next year.

"Addison Lee has always been the industry leader when it comes to in-car experience. The introduction of 4G continues this tradition and there are plenty more investments we will be making to deliver more best-in-class services and experiences for our customers,” Liam Griffin, CEO of Addison Lee, said.

He added: "In-car 4G will help our customers be better connected than ever before, by enabling them to work and play on the move, and perhaps free up some spare time along the way.

“Our passengers are our number-one priority and we know this latest offering will make a real difference to their lives."

The 4G Wi-Fi, which will be available to all Addison Lee passengers at no extra charge, will offer upload and download speed of up to 12mbps.

These speeds mean an hour long TV show can be downloaded in just three minutes and your favourite tablet-based magazine can be added to your device in less than 60 seconds.

The announcement comes in a tech-filled day for the transport industry. From today, the London Underground is accepting payments through contactless cards and NFC-equipped smartphones.
