LG G Pad 10.1 starts global roll-out

LG has started rolling out the largest model in its new tablet range, the LG G Pad 10.1, over in the US.

Last month LG announced the gradual availability of its new G Pad range, starting with a European launch of the LG G Pad 7.0. Now it's the turn of the largest model in the range, the LG G Pad 10.1.

The LG G Pad 10.1 shares a number of components with the two smaller models (the range is completed by the LG G Pad 8.3). While its screen is obviously a unique 10.1-inch IPS panel, its 1280 x 800 resolution is common to all three tablets.

So too is the G Pad 10.1's quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor with 1GB of RAM.

Unlike the LG G Pad 7.0, the LG G Pad 10.1 comes with 16GB of internal storage, with a microSD card slot to back it up. Its 5-megapixel camera is also a step up from the previously seen smallest model.

As you might expect, the LG G Pad 10.1 runs on the biggest battery of the lot, with an 8000mAh unit powering it along.

At 8.9mm thick and 523g, the LG G Pad 10.1 is about the same thickness as the Nexus 10, but is considerable lighter to the tune of 80g. It's a fair bit thicker and heavier than the similarly specced Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1.

Like the G Pad 7.0, the LG G Pad 10.1 comes with Android 4.4.2 and LG’s latest custom software. This includes the Knock Code security system, which allows you access to your tablet with a preset arrangement of screen taps.

Dual Window, meanwhile, lets you run two apps simultaneously side-by-side. Samsung employs a similar technique on its latest tablets.

The LG G Pro 10.1 has launched in the US, and will become available in "other markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America later in the month," according to LG. There's no pricing information as yet, but we're expecting it to be relatively affordable given its modest specs.
