The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will be called the iPhone 6 Air according to a prominent case manufacturer.
Spigen, a big name in phone cases has offered some key information about the iPhone 6 ahead of its launch later this year.
The company has listed cases for the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 on Amazon, revealing that the name of the larger model will be the iPhone 6 Air.
Just to support that, Spigen then published an image in a Google Plus post of an iPhone 6, or at least a render, enclosed in one of its new cases and with the prominent caption:
“There’s something in the Air. iPhone 6 cases coming soon.”
The word Air is even in a slimmer font, just to highlight the name.
It's also worth noting that Spigen states the iPhone 6 cases will be available on September 30, which suggests both versions of the iPhone 6 will launch at the same time around the end of September.
Because of its position in the phone industry, we’re inclined to believe what Spigen is saying, but as always take this rumour with a pinch of salt.
However, this isn’t the first time the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 has been referred to as the iPhone Air, with Chinese media sources citing industry sources that the larger model would adopt the iPad Air and MacBook Air naming scheme.
The iPhone 6 is expected to launch with a sapphire crystal display, which may mean you won’t need a screen protector for the next model. We expect Apple would still advise you to get a case though, as no doubt the iPhone 6 will still have a non-scratch resistant aluminium body.
It is tipped to pack the new Apple A8 processor and come running the new iOS 8 out of the box.
Thanks to the new HealthKit and the iPhone 5S M7 co-processor with its fitness focus, Apple is also reportedly going to launch the iWatch at the same time, rivalling the freshly released Android Wear devices.
