LG 105-inch Ultra HD TV heading to Europe

With the LG 105-inch Ultra HD TV having been unveiled earlier in the year, the Korean manufacturer has today confirmed its intention to bring the home entertainment behemoth to the UK for the first time.

Having previously only been confirmed for US and Korean markets, the CES 2014 announced TV will launch across European territories later this year alongside the company’s wider UHD TV range which features models from 49-inches upwards.

Although plans for a European rollout have been confirmed during LG InnoFest 2014, the Korean manufacturer has yet to formally detail an exact UK launch window or pricing despite US pricing having been set at a staggering $70,000 (£43,000).

“Our wide range of OLED and Ultra HD TVs is pushing the industry forward in terms of image quality and ease of use while webOS allows our customers to get the most out of our technology,” Kim Ki-wan, LG’s Executive Vice-President of Overseas said in making the announcement.

He added: “InnoFest reaffirms LG’s commitment to making it all possible for European consumers with a home entertainment experience that far exceeds expectations.”

More than just a massive TV, the LG 105-inch UHD model is at the pinnacle of television technology, with the oversized display featuring a curved panel, 21:9 cinema-friendly aspect ratio and stunning 5120 x 2160p 5K resolution.

Although 4K and UHD TVs are currently limited by a lack of native content, LG’s inbound UHD TV line, which includes 49, 55, 60, 65, 79, 84, 98 and 105-inch models, all feature the company’s Tru-Ultra HD Engine Pro, capable of converting SD, HD and Full HD content to near 4K quality.

Adding 3D capabilities and HDMI 2.0 connectivity to the mix, LG’s new UHD line will also benefit from improved audio, with the range’s inbuilt Ultra Sound speaker system having been developed in partnership with Harman Kardon.
