What could be "bigger than Kindle"? We're intrigued
Amazon is preparing a new secret product that it claims will be even “bigger than Kindle”.
The online retail giant has a secret project up its sleeve that it believes will eclipse the success of the Kindle range, which includes the likes of the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Fire HDX 7.
An exclusive invitation for an Amazon recruiting event in America has been obtained by The Boston Globe and outlines the bare minimum about its upcoming product.
“We are working on a revolutionary V1 product that will allow us to deliver Digital Media to our customers in new ways and disrupt the current marketplace,” read the Amazon event details. “We have teams in various locations partnering on this product from Sunnyvale, Seattle to right here in Boston. We believe this new product will be even bigger than Kindle!”
All we know so far is that Amazon’s upcoming device will be used to “deliver Digital Media” in a unique way.
The project is also part of Amazon’s Kindle New Initiative department (Lab126), meaning it is most likely to have some connection to the Kindle device line.
There have been several rumours surrounding potential new Amazon products, including a games console, a smartphone range and a TV set top box.
We’d put our money on an Amazon TV set top box, which was reportedly delayed until 2014 according to reports back in October 2013.
Rumours suggest that the Amazon TV box will run a special version of the Fire OS available on the Kindle Fire tablets, but will offer access to third-party apps like the Google Play Store in addition to the Kindle store front and Amazon’s own services like Lovefilm.
It’s reasonable to assume Amazon will use the box to push content from the online retail store, its Kindle Android app, MP3 and Prime Video stores too though.
