Alienware has announced the release date for its Steam Machine, with the box touching down in September.
The Alienware Steam Machine was unveiled during CES 2014, but now we know when you’ll actually be able to buy one.
During a presentation at the Valve Dev Days summit this week, Alienware revealed it would launch its dedicated Steam Machine sometime in September.
The news originally broke via a smattering of attendee tweets, but has since been confirmed with Dell representatives.
Although the company has yet to announce the official pricing for the Alienware Steam Machine, the company said it will directly compete with the £349 PS4 and £429 Xbox One .
“The commitment we are making from a price perspective is that it will be competitive with Xbox One and PS4,” said Bryan de Zayas, Alienware’s Global Marketing Director, to TrustedReviews. “That price will be for the box and we will be shipping it with a Valve Steam Controller.”
Alienware is also keeping the specs of its Steam Machine close to its chest for now. Valve has been working very closely with the manufacturer for this particular Steam Machine though, so expect it to be pretty special.
“From a price point perspective, we actually think that costing as much as an Xbox One or PS4 is going to be a big benefit. It will help better align us with that mentality from a gaming perspective that this fits in the same living room model”, added de Zayas.
