Samsung Galaxy S4 to add Galaxy Gear compatibility next month

A new Samsung Galaxy S4 update will introduce compatibility with the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch next month, the company has confirmed.

Having officially unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Gear at IFA 2013 earlier this month before making the smartwatch available to consumers yesterday, September 25, Samsung has now confirmed that the Gear will be compatible with the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 in a matter of weeks.

Currently restricted to be used with either the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or upcoming 2014 Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Gear will also add compatibility with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 before the year’s out.

“All functions of the Gear will be connected to the Galaxy S4 smartphone by next month and the connection will be expanded to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 by the end of December,” Lee Young-hee, Samsung’s Executive Vice President of Mobile Marketing said speaking in Korea.

Despite the techy wristwear having come under criticism for its lack of handset compatibility and premium £300 price tag, Samsung has suggested that the timepiece is “definitely receiving a warm response.”

Young-hee stated: “The Galaxy Gear is a wow product. It’s a wholly new and must-have accessory. It only weighs 74 grams and it’s very easy to receive a call or send a text.”

Although remaining stubborn on the Gear’s success, Samsung has openly acknowledged that the smartwatch is now without its issues.

We’ve acknowledged that our Gear lacks something special,” a company spokesperson said at the watch’s Korean launch. “With more investment for user interface and user experience, Samsung devices will be better in terms of customer satisfaction.”

Although Samsung has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will add Galaxy Gear compatibility next month, no concrete date has yet been set by the manufacturer.
