Gmail gets update for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Google has boosted the Gmail application to accommodate the larger screens on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets.

The new iOS 8-friendly application means users no longer have to rely on an app designed for a 4-inch display while reading their emails.

iPhone 6 owners are now seeing around 7 or 8 emails per page, while iPhone 6 Plus owners will see up to 9 emails on the screen. That’s up from around 6 on the iPhone 5S and below.

Thanks to email previews, users will be able to see a lot more of their inbox, while opening emails will reveal the contents on the same screen.

Aside from the screen scaling there’s very little new on show in the new Gmail for iPhone app.

Users are still unable to reply to emails from iOS 8’s new actionable notifications feature, while there are no unified inboxes.

Plenty of third party applications have updated their wares to accommodate the upscaled screens and now Google has joined those ranks.

You can download the ironically named Gmail v.3.1415926 for iOS from the App Store now.
