Alleged image of the HTC Nexus 9 leaks

Could this be the forthcoming Nexus 9? It is according to @upleaks.

It looks wider than a lot of tablets. Though it's cut out of this image, it features the HTC logo below the Nexus branding, which would square with earlier rumours that said HTC would be behind the device.

It also shows the camera in the top corner, and the LED flash.

Of course, this hasn't been verified by HTC or Google, so best take it with a pinch of salt for now. But @upleaks is a trusted source of leaks.

The photo is labelled T1, which could be the device's codename.

HTC is holding an event tomorrow when it's rumoured to launch its HTC One M8 Eye phone, so the Nexus 9 could also make an appearance. Other sources say the device will launch alongside the Nexus 6 and Android L next week.

As the name suggests, the Nexus 9 has a 9-inch screen – alright, 8.9-inch to be exact – that has a 1080p resolution. It's also expected to pack 3GB of RAM and 16GB storage.

Nvidia recently let slip news of HTC's new slate in a court document. The Wall Street Journal also quoted sources as saying HTC is working on a tablet for Google.

HTC is an odd choice. It worked with Google on the Nexus One – the original Google phone – but has only made one tablet, the 7-inch HTC Flyer in 2011. And that was a flop.

It's likely Google doesn't want any one Android manufacturer gaining too big a share. Hence dropping Samsung, its current partner on the Nexus 10.
