Nokia Lumia Cyan update released, brings Windows Phone 8.1

Microsoft has released the Nokia Lumia Cyan update, which updates devices to the latest Windows Phone 8.1 operating system.

The Lumia Cyan update brings Windows Phone 8 devices up speed with the latest mobile OS but it also brings some other Nokia goodies to the fore as well.

“Starting today, the Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphone family will receive the Lumia Cyan software, the new Windows Phone 8.1 update and Lumia features upgrade that will make your Lumia an even more personal, fun and indispensable part of your life,” said Microsoft in a statement.

With the update Windows Phone users will be able to add another column of Live Tiles to their home screens, use their own photos as a background image behind those Live Tiles and explore the enhancements made to the People Hub.

Of course, a great new and long-awaited feature is Action Centre, offering access to all your notifications and the ability to toggle various key settings including Bluetooth and airplane mode.

You’ll notice there’s a brand new keyboard too, called Word Flow, which works in a similar way to SwiftKey, letting you swipe your fingers over letters to form words.

There’s also the business update, which lets you access and quickly edit Office documents within an enterprise safe environment.

If you’re in the US, you’ll get Cortana too, the Windows Phone 8.1 personal assistant, but it’s not coming to the UK quite yet.

The Nokia Camera, Creative Studio and Storyteller apps are also getting a little upgrade with the Cyan update, including a more simplified UI with one-tap access to edit and share photo tools, full-resolution zooming and access to Creative Studio 6 from the Camera Roll.

The full details of the Nokia Lumia Cyan update are outlined in the below video or the Nokia Conversations blog.
