Amazon Fire TV UK release date set for Christmas?

The Amazon Fire TV UK release date should see the set top box arrive before Christmas.

Although Amazon itself has kept very quiet on any release plans outside the US for its new set top box, one retailer has outed a vague release date for the Fire TV.

A representative from Argos told TechRadar that the Amazon Fire TV would be available to buy in the UK “for Christmas”.

The source was unable to provide concrete details on an official release date though.

It does mean you can expect to get your hands on Amazon’s set top box before the end of the year, or at least in time to shove in someone’s Christmas stocking.

When announcing the Fire TV at a dedicated event earlier this year, Amazon was very cagey when asked directly about the arrival of the set top box in the UK.

“Fire TV is not available outside the US at this time and we’re not able to speculate on future plans,” said an official Amazon spokesperson.

The Amazon Fire TV is a tiny internet-connected set-top box that aims to bring streaming services like Amazon Prime Instant Video, Netflix and Hulu to your TV.

It comes bundled with a special remote that uses an integrated microphone for voice commands and voice search on the Fire TV.

If you fancy playing a few Android games on the device, you can also pick up a special Amazon gaming controller for a subsidy.

The Fire TV is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB of RAM and comes with HDMI, Optical Audio and USB ports.
