Xbox Video app launches for Windows Phone platform

Microsoft powered handsets will finally play nice with the company’s console movie services as an Xbox Video app launches for the Windows Phone platform.

Allowing Windows Phone users to stream movie content or download flicks for offload viewing, the Xbox Video Windows Phone app has been made available today, December 18, as a free download.

The first video-on-demand app to launch for the Windows Phone 8 OS, Xbox Video will allow users to buy or rent movies and TV shows, or splash out on a Season Pass so that new series episodes are automatically added to their collection when available.

Helping you decide what to watch and what not to waste your time with, the Xbox Video platform will see content accompanied by Rotten Tomatoes ratings and Metacritic scores.

While Xbox Video has made its way to smartphones and the Windows Phone 8 platform for the first time, it far from limited to the Microsoft branded handsets.

A cross-platform video service, Xbox Video allows users to download content on their phone but play it back on any Windows powered device.

Available for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360, hence the service’s name, Xbox Video content can also be viewed on Windows 8 powered PCs and tablets, such as the Microsoft Surface Pro 2.
