Amazon Studios shooting 4K original content in 2014

Amazon Studios has announced it will be shooting all 2014 original content in full 4K Ultra HD resolution.

Offering resolutions with four times the number of pixels that Full 1080p HD, 4K Ultra HD resolution offers the great quality of picture clarity.

All 2014 full original series produced by Amazon Studios, including comedies and dramas, will be shot in 4K.

“As a premium original content creator, we’re excited about 4K and the future of Ultra HD technology, particularly as we move into drama series next year,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “All of the pilots and series we produce next year will be shot in 4K.”

The 4K footage will utilise displays with aspect ratios of at least 16:9 and capable of a 3,840 x 2,160p resolution.

“That includes our first ever drama series that we will greenlight next year – we think customers are going to love watching these series in the highest resolution ever available to consumers and we can’t wait to deliver it.”

The 4K promise only applies to full series started in 2014 and not to the already-completed pilots available from Amazon Studios.

Amazon will debut five new comedy and drama pilots in 2014 on Lovefilm and Amazon Prime Instant Video in 2014, which customers will be invited to watch and vote on. Whichever is the most popular will be made into a full series to air exclusively on the services.

Pilots launching in 2014 include “Bosch”, based on the Harry Bosch book series by Michael Connelly, and “Mozart in the Jungle” with Academy-award winning director Roman Coppola.
