Sony promises ‘substantial’ amount of extra pre-Christmas PS4 stock

Following the console’s recent launch, Sony has promised that a ‘substantial’ amount of additional PS4 stock will hit the UK ahead of Christmas to address demand.

With last Friday’s November 29 PS4 release date seeing the console shift more than 250,000 units in the UK over just two days, the manufacturer has now confirmed that extra PS4 stocks are inbound in order to meet growing order numbers.

"We are delighted by the initial sales of PS4 and are proud to have set new records for a UK console launch," Fergal Gara UK MD of Sony’s PlayStation brand said in a statement to MCV.

He added: “Substantial further volumes of PS4 will arrive in the UK before Christmas."

With the quarter of a million unit, two day sales figure seeing the PS4 become the fastest selling console in UK history, the Japanese gaming giant today confirmed that it has shifted more than 2.1 million PS4 units around the world during the past two weeks alone.

“I want to thank all the gamers who have waited patiently for PS4 and who have come out to support PlayStation,” Gara stated. “I also want to thank all of our retail and publishing partners who have helped make this possible by delivering huge sales in a very short period of time and great games for PS4.”

Suggesting that the PS4 has proven significantly more popular than Sony had ever expected, Gara added: “Since the initial announcement back in February, pre-orders for PS4 have surpassed all expectations and we continue to work hard to fulfil the remainder of these pre-orders and to deliver additional consoles to the market for the many more gamers who want a PS4.”

Despite the PS4 not hitting the UK until last week, as early as November 14 retailers have been suggesting that they were already sold out of pre-Christmas PS4 stocks.

“Customers who pre-order this console from November 14 will receive their consoles after Christmas,” a statement on Amazon UK’s PS4 product listing reads.
