PS4 more popular than Xbox One retailers suggest

As the next-gen gaming battle gets under way, Sony looks to have won the first war, with retailers suggesting the PS4 is more popular than the Xbox One with early adopters.

Despite the PS4 having gone on sale one week later than its Microsoft branded rival, having hit the UK last Friday, November 29, interest is reportedly higher in cheaper of the two next-gen consoles. While the Xbox One price has been set at £429, the PS4 will put wannabe owners back just £349.

According to retail giant Tesco, the PS4 has become the most popular product it has ever sold through its online outlets, while in-store queues for the console were 12 hours long at launch.

Adding further backing to the PS4’s early next-gen dominance, the UK’s two largest gaming retailers, GAME and Amazon, have both thrown their hats into the Sony console’s corner.

With GAME stating that early PS4 demand was four times higher than that of its predecessor, the PS3, Amazon has revealed that the PS4 has become the fast selling console in the online retailer’s history.

Although the PS4 has said to be more popular than the Xbox One with a number of leading retailers, the Sony machine has not had everything its own way. Further sellers have backed the Xbox One, showing just how competitive the next-gen gaming race will be.

Speaking with TrustedReviews recently, retailer John Lewis revealed that it was pegging the Xbox One to win the next-gen race.

“We are expecting more interest in the Xbox One,” Jonathan Marsh, a Head Technology Buyer at John Lewis told us.

“We are stocking both the PS4 and the Xbox One but if we were to back one, we are thinking that Xbox One will appeal a bit more to our customers in terms of the experience it creates.” He added: “If we had to edge one I would favour the Xbox One.”
