The Last of Us tops UK gaming chart for sixth straight week

The Last of US has topped the UK’s All Format Gaming Chart for a sixth consecutive week despite being exclusively available on Sony’s PS3 console.

In what can safely be classed as something of a quiet spell for the gaming market, The Last of US has hit its latest milestone, with its sixth straight week in taking top honours seeing the Naughty Dog developed title match the high-profile, multi-platform likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and FIFA 13.

With The Last of Us claiming top spot for the PS3, an Xbox 360 exclusive secured second position for the week ending July 20, with Minecraft, Xbox 360 Edition rising three places to take the silver medal. The podium positions have been rounded out by Nintendo’s Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros.

While Dynasty Warriors 8 was the week’s highest new entry in fifth, sales figures have revealed that the franchise is on something of a decline. The latest Dynasty Warriors offering failed to outsell any of its three most recent predecessors and could not dislodge Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf from fourth in the weekly sales charts.

Although The Last of Us has become the highest selling new franchise in PS3 history, shifting more than 3.4 million units in its opening two and half weeks on sale according to Sony, it is not the only AAA title to make the week’s gaming chart top 10.

With Far Cry 3 holding firm in sixth, Rockstar’s Max Payne 3 rounded out the week in seventh, ahead of Ubisoft’s aging but still much loved The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Despite FIFA 14 now just being a matter of weeks away from release, last year’s FIFA 13 has kept a footing in the leading chart positions, holding on to ninth. Square Enix rounds out the week’s top ten with the most recent Tomb Raider offering.
