What is the Canon PIXMA MG5450?
Canon’s PIXMA MG5450 is an all-in-one for the home, particularly for those who want to print photos and on discs, as well as paper documents. It has a good feature set, though no Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) or fax functions.

The printer is a variation on the big, shiny black boxes Canon has produced for many years, but this one has a lower profile than most. It’s footprint on the desk, though, is if anything, larger than in previous models.
As well as being a squat design, the surround to the top is shallower, so the 75mm LCD display is set nearly flat, more awkward to read if you’re sitting next to the machine. This isn’t a touch screen, but the clever use of three soft keys means it’s still very easy to navigate the menu system.
The lid of the flatbed scanner looks small within the footprint of the printer, but has floating hinges for scanning thick or bound documents. At the front of the machine, the full-width cover folds down to become the output tray, with an extra support swinging out as it opens.
Underneath this is a neat arrangement of twin trays, one for plain paper and the other for photo blanks. The reduced height also means low capacity, though, with the main tray only holding 125 sheets at a time.
Connections are USB and wireless, with WiFi having a very easy, touch and go setup, if you have WPS on your router. The usual good suite of Canon support software, including My Image Garden, Creative Park Premium and Easy-WebPrint EX is provided.
