Leaked Huawei P6 vies for world’s slimmest smartphone crown

Claiming to be the new world’s slimmest smartphone, a handset named the Huawei P6-UO6 has leaked online.

Potentially coming to the smartphone market as the Huawei Ascend P6, the leak claims the handset will boast dimensions of 132.6 x 65.5 x 6.18mm, making the Huawei P6-UO6 the thinnest currently available.

Just 6.18mm thick, it would make the flagship handsets on the market look pretty chubby in comparison. To the dimensions into perspective, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z are 7.9mm in depth; the iPhone 5 is 7.6mm thick; and the HTC One a porky 9.3mm due to its delightfully curved back.

Currently holding the title of the world’s thinnest smartphone is the Alcatel Idol Ultra that comes in at 6.45mm in depth. It shaved a couple of points of a millimetre off the previous leader, the Huawei Ascend P1S.

It does bode well that the Chinese manufacturer has already made a super skinny smartphone, so the dimensions of the leaked Huawei P6-UO6 may be accurate.

The details arrive courtesy of a Chinese equivalent of the FCC and listed the handset’s specs and a couple of images.

Aside from its slim form factor, the Huawei P6-UO6 doesn’t quite match up to the powerhouse Android smartphones on the market. It has a 4.7-inch HD display of unknown resolution and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.

Running an unknown version of Android Jelly Bean, the Huawei P6-UO6 should also play host to a fairly average 5-megapixel camera.

The current leading smartphone from the Chinese company is the Huawei Ascend P2, which is due to launch sometime in Q2 2013. If the Huawei P6-UO6 does exist it will be very similar to the Huawei Ascend P2, which offers a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM, 4.7-inch 720p HD display and runs Android Jelly Bean with Huawei’s Emotion 1.6 UI on top.
