Nest announces smart home partnerships at CES

Nest has just outed a host of new partners at CES, putting a big focus smart home integration.

Headline entrants to the partnership roster include LG, Withings, and Philips Hue.

Also signed up are August, UniKey, Automatic, Insteon, Lutron, Beep, Chargepoint, Osram, Zulu, Big Ass Fans, Stack, and Ooma, padding out the ‘Works with Nest’ line-up.

So what does this mean for Nest? Take the August Smart Lock for instance. Pair that with your Nest system and unlocking your door will kick-start your home heating.

It can also work out when you’ve left home, sending a signal to your LG refrigerator that it’s safe to enter power saving mode.

It’s not all just heating tech either – Nest Protect, the security spin-off, will see your Philips Hue multi-coloured LED bulbs flashing should your smoke or carbon monoxide detectors detect a problem.

Nest already has a bunch of partnerships in its corporate buddy-up portfolio, not least Dropcam, Whirlpool, and Mercedes-Benz.

It’s all part of the push for an Internet of Things future, whereby all home technology is linked and controllable from a singular mobile interface.

According to Nest, around one-tenth of its customers are making use of the ‘Works with Nest’ platform – a strong sign for the fledgling tech.

CES 2015 will see a big focus on Internet of Things and smart home innovation, with Samsung also expected to make some big announcements in the field today.
