Huawei is going to bin the ‘Ascend’ moniker from future smartphones, according to a new report.
This means that rather than calling the Huawei Ascend P7’s successor the Huawei Ascend P8, it will most likely be tagged as the Huawei P8.
The P8 is expected to debut the new branding style at its purported launch in May, as reported by HDBlog.it (via PhoneArena).
The move is likely in response to widespread concerns that current smartphone naming conventions are too complex, thus confusing consumers.
So, naming aside, what can we expect from the Huawei P8? Most reports tip a 5.2-inch display running at a 1080p resolution.
Inside will be an octa-core Kirin 930 chip – as built by Huawei itself – as well as 3GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, and, allegedly, a fingerprint scanner.

The general consensus is that the P8 will launch at this year’s Mobile World Congress, running from March 2 to 5 in Barcelona.
There are also reports of a Huawei D8 launching at the event too – that will carry a 5.5-inch 1440 x 2560 display, a 64-bit Kirin 950 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of built-in storage.
