Prints charming

There's no shortage of 3D printers seeking crowdfunding, but this one promises to be a cut above.

The makers claim every part of the Roller Printer is made "with the highest level of precision and specifics". Each component is made of aluminium, not plastic like some models, and processed on high-end machines.

It also uses brass, stainless steel, carbon fibre and polyamide.

It's quick, too. A working whistle was made in just 14 minutes, while a statue of an owl took under two and a half hours.

It's relatively small, and you can close the container, which protects the spool from dust and other elements. You can produce products using ABS, PLA, wooden filament, rubber filament, and nylon, among other materials. Plus you don't need to have it connected to your computer all the time. All you need is a power cable and your design on a microSD card.

Slot it in, and you can control it using the LCD screen and rotary controller. On the back is the power switch, reset button, USB port and a socket for auto-levelling.

You can choose from a stainless steel or brushed steel finish.

It costs $999 (£636) for the basic model, though shipping costs extra. Shipping should start in April next year, if it reaches its funding goal of $10,000 on Indiegogo. At the moment it's only raised $39, but we're sure that will change.
