Microsoft has announced plans to show off its progress with Windows 10 at a media event next month.

The software giant plans to preview the consumer version of its next-generation operating system on January 21 at the event called The Next Chapter.

Since the initial announcement in September, Microsoft has focused on how Windows 10 will benefit its Enterprise users. However, now the firm seems ready to detail how the update will benefit every day PC, laptop and tablet users.

“On Wednesday, January 21st – we will be holding an event here on Microsoft’s Redmond campus where we will talk about the next chapter of Windows 10,” Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc wrote on the Windows blog.

“You’ll hear directly from senior leaders from the Operating Systems Group (…) continuing the story we began in September. We’re going to live webcast the event so mark your calendars! (…) As you can imagine, we’re pretty stoked to show you what’s next for Windows 10!

The announcement will also bring more speculation the firm intends to release the first Windows 10 Consumer Preview following the event.

So far, the only way for folks to take Windows 10 for a test drive is to sign up for the Technical Preview, which is only recommended for developers and seasoned tinkerers with access to a secondary computer.

A lot rests on the success of Windows 10, following the lukewarm reception granted to Windows 8, so we’re intrigued to see exactly what Microsoft has in store for consumers on January 21.
