Samsung has given 3D its backing in the TV sector, stating the extra-dimensional technology is “still important’ to the television market.
While 3D was tipped as the must-have TV feature for a number of years, limited content and a number of viewing limitations, including the need to wear glasses, has seen the perspective-providing technology gain only minimal consumer interest following the first wave of intrigue.
Now, however, despite the rise of 4K, Samsung has backed 3D as still being an integral part to the overall TV space.
“3D is still an important part of our TV proposition,” Dilen Thakrar, Samsung’s Senior TV Product Manager said speaking with TrustedReviews.
The Samsung product head added: “3D is a feature that consumers do like to use, therefore we have to make sure it part of our core range and is something we believe in as well.
“We have 3D throughout all of our product ranges, starting from the 6000 series up so it’s a core element of our range on LED and it’s part of the UHD range as well.”
Despite Samsung giving its backing to 3D, not all members of the industry are convinced by the technology’s future.
“3D is certainly becoming less important,” John Kempner, a lead TV Buyer with retail giant John Lewis has told TrustedReviews.
He added: “It’s not the new feature anymore, clearly 4K and Smart are where all the developments and advancements are being made.”
