Archos confirms it will launch its own golf sensor

French smartphone and tablet specialist Archos has confirmed it is to broaden its horizons, revealing it is working on a smart device to track your golf swing.

Although a number of companies have already brought golf swing tracking sensors to market, Archos has suggested its upcoming offering will be the first to target a budget price point, although an exact cost has yet to be confirmed.

Having suggested that smart devices are on the verge of infiltrating all aspects of user’s lives, Archos CEO Loic Poirier has stated: “We are building our own golf sensors.”

Speaking exclusively with TrustedReviews he added: “Soon users are going to have a sensor for playing tennis or golf, we are already thinking about the golf.”

Despite having recently unveiled its own collection of smartwatches and connected home devices, products which have been crafted to be easy on the eye, the Archos CEO has suggested that the hardware aspect of a golf sensor is not where the trouble lies for the new product category.

“Around sport it is around algorithms more than hardware,” Poirier told us. “It is all about analysing if you were optimum in your swing.”

He added: “If I am building up a sensor for golf, it is not going to be difficult to build the sensor itself. What is lovely though is building the right algorithm that tells you if you are too quick with your swing, if your posture is proper, what the velocity of your shot.”
