Metro Redux is real, official announcement coming before E3

Metro Redux for Xbox One and PS4 is real and will be formally announced before E3 in June, publisher Deep Silver has confirmed.

Over the weekend, leaked presentation material suggested that Metro Redux – an enhanced version of Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light for PS4 and Xbox One, complete with all Last Light DLC and an official soundtrack – was on the cards for a July 2014 release.

Now, Deep Silver has confirmed that these documents contain “nuggets of truth” in a statement to Eurogamer and that an official announcement will occur before E3.

“We could issue a ‘we do not comment on rumour and speculation’ statement and pretend this never happened. They’re pretty boring to read. They’re also pretty boring to write. So we’re going to comment on rumour and speculation instead,” said Deep Silver.

Is Metro Redux real? Yes. We never made any secret of 4A’s desire to bring Metro to the latest generation console hardware. But what you saw leaked was taken from an old, internal planning presentation, containing some nuggets of truth but a lot of hypothetical ideas and place holder material.”

Deep Silver explained that the leaked presentation slides used artwork from the Russian edition of Metro 2033 novel, while the Metro Redux logo was just a photoshopped version of the Metro 2033 version.

“As you can see, we’re not quite ready to reveal 4A Games’ first next-gen console project, but we will be making an announcement this side of E3.”

However, what’s interesting is that Deep Silver believes Metro Redux could offer more than was outlined by the leaked paraphernalia.

“We think the reality is a lot more exciting than the outdated material that got leaked shows, and we’re itching to share it with you. Just not yet.”
