AMD A-Series Kaveri APUs launched with up to 12 compute cores


AMD has launched its long-awaited fourth-generation A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), known as Kaveri.


Offering increased performance and power efficiency, the AMD Kaveri line will compete with the new Intel Haswell chips.


The AMD A-Series APUs will come with AMD Radeon R7 graphics and offer up to 12 compute cores, combining 4 CPU and 8 GPU cores.


The 28nm microprocessor has 2.41 billion transistors and has been designed to target multiple IT sectors including tablets, desktops and notebooks.


AMD claims the Kaveri line will offer up to 50 per cent increased GPU performance thanks to its redesigned architecture. It makes use of AMD x86 Steamroller architecture, and is the first to feature AMD’s Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA).


HSA enables the CPU and GPU to work together to streamline tasks to the most applicable processing element to improve efficiency and performance.


The AMD Kaveri range features AMD TrueAudio Technology for 32-surround audio. The latest range also supports Ultra HD 4K resolution and FM2 sockets.

AMD will launch the top-end A10-7850K for $173 (approx. £105) and the mid-tier A10-7700K for $152 (approx. £92). Both of the A10 models are available from today and come bundled with Battlefield 4.


The lowest-tier A8-7600 will retail from Q1 2014 for $119 (approx. £72).
