Xbox One and PS4 games to be sold weeks ahead of console launches

Ahead of the upcoming Xbox One and PS4 release dates, retailers have confirmed that the first next-gen games will go on sale weeks before the two consoles land.

With the eagerly awaited Call of Duty: Ghosts release set from November 5 for the current-gen Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles, Amazon has revealed that both the Xbox One and PS4 editions of the game will also be released that day, despite preceding the consoles by more than two weeks.

With the Xbox One release date penned in for November 22 and the UK PS4 release date lined up for seven days later on November 29, confirmation of next-gen games going on sale early will give avid gamers the chance to prepare for the net-gen launches ahead of time.

Please Note: Your Xbox One/PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts will be dispatched to arrive on Tuesday, November 5,” retailer giant Amazon has stated on its Call of Duty: Ghosts sales pages. They add: “However you will not be able to play your game until you receive your console on Friday, November 22/Friday, November 29.”

Further confirming the pre-release arrivals, the retailer’s Xbox One COD: Ghosts listing states: “Please note that this product is released before the Xbox One console.”

Despite the Amazon confirmation, publisher Activision has yet to officially announce its Xbox One or PS4 Call of Duty: Ghosts release dates.

Far from the only title coming to both current and next-gen consoles, Call of Duty: Ghosts will line up alongside the likes of Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 and Madden 25.
