Google Nexus 5 snapped and appraised

The Google Nexus 5 smartphone has been pictured out and about once again, accompanied by some initial impressions.

Google's forthcoming flagship Android phone, which many are expecting to replace the current Google Nexus 4 later this month, has been cropping up in various places in recent months.

This latest leak has sprung from a seemingly unlikely source, Apple rumour website MacRumours. Forum user weespeed posted the above image of the Nexus 5, and claims to have had actual hands-on time with the device.

It appears to be genuine, with the same landscape-oriented Nexus engraving and emphasised camera lens as we've seen outside Google's own HQ, among other places.

Besides the image, the user mentioned that the LG-manufactured Nexus 5 seemed smaller than the LG G2, upon which it appears to be based, with tiny bezels. Despite this, the feel is apparently more reminiscent of the Nexus 7.

One slight downer - the report claims that the Nexus 5's screen is merely "OK," and that it doesn't match up to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 equivalent. Of course, if the Nexus 4 is anything to go by, the Google Nexus 5 will be significantly cheaper than any of Samsung's top-end devices.

It's believed that the Google Nexus 5 will feature a 5-inch Full HD display, a 2.3GHz quad-core CPU (probably a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800), 4G and integrated wireless charging. It should also be the first device to run on Android 4.4 KitKat.

Google is expected to launch the device at a special event in mid-October.
