Minecraft retains UK Gaming Chart crown

The Xbox 360 exclusive rendition of Minecraft has topped the UK All Format Gaming Chart for the second consecutive week, as a lack of new entries leave it unchallenged.

Having risen to the top of the sales chart last week following several weeks in the lower podium positions, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has held on to top spot despite a 9 per cent drop in week-on-week sales. With last week’s highest new entry and second place finisher Pikmin 3 dropping out of the top ten, down to fifteenth, the PS3 locked The Last of US has risen back to second spot for the week ending August 3.

Ensuring all three major consoles are represented in the top three spots, the Wii U enabled Animal Crossing: New Leaf lines up in third ahead of the continually strong FIFA 13 in fourth.

Gaining a significant boost in sales from the launch of the corresponding film, the Smurfs 2 video game has seen a 115 per cent week-on-week sales increase catapult it up 20 places to fifth.

The rest of the week’s top ten is a who’s-who of former chart toppers with Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3 leading the way in sixth. With Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heros climbing back to seventh, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has risen eight places to eighth.

With a number of weeks left until the annual busy period for new AAA games sees the gaming chart clogged with big new releases, past leading efforts in Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed 3 have ended the current week in ninth and tenth spots respectively.
