iTunes Radio launches as free personalised internet radio service from Apple

Apple iTunes Radio

Apple iTunes Radio will launch this autumn

iTunes Radio has been officially unveiled by Apple as a free to use customisable and personally curated internet radio service.

Formally announced alongside iOS 7 during the WWDC 2013 keynote, iTunes Radio enters the realms of reality following months of rumour and speculation surrounding its existence.

“iTunes Radio is an incredible way to listen to personalised radio stations which have been created just for you,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “It’s the music you love most and the music you’re going to love, and you can easily buy it from the iTunes Store with just one click.”

iTunes Radio Features

Supporting more than 200 internet radio stations, the free to use iTunes Radio will land later this year, with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Mac users all set to benefit from the service’s personally customised playlists based on users’ past iTunes-based listening habits.

Ensuring the service is accessible to as wide an audience as possible, Apple has confirmed iTunes Radio compatibility for PC and Apple TV users too.

As well as hosting established radio services, iTunes Radio will see Features Stations curated by Apple build on iTunes hefty music back catalogue to introduce users to new music they might like. The service will take into past listening trends for each individual user, providing a personally tailored experience from first use.

“iTunes Radio evolves based on the music you play and download. The more you use iTunes Radio and iTunes, the more it knows what you like to listen to and the more personalised your experience becomes,” and official Apple spokesperson said.

They added: “iTunes Radio also gives you access to exclusive “first listen” premieres from top selling artists, Siri integration, plus the ability to tag or buy anything you hear with just one click.”

Featuring integrated Siri assistance, iTunes Radio users will benefit from a range of new and exclusive tracks on a weekly basis. The Siri integration sees voice commands able to be given to pause tracks, add music to Wish Lists and to discover artist information.

iTunes Radio Release Date

Like iOS 7, Apple’s iTune Radio release date has been pegged for this ‘fall’. Although unconfirmed, it is expected the new music service will land alongside the eagerly awaited iPhone 5S and iPad mini 2 this September.
