Angry Birds Go! racing game teased

Rovio has launched a teaser website for Angry Birds Go!, which appears set to incorporate elements of the racing game genre.

The Angry Birds Go! teaser trailer features a brief animated snippet with the words 'Ready,' 'Set,' and 'Go' appearing along with three Mario Kart-like chimes. At this point a ball of feathers - evidently the famous red bird of the franchise - zooms off down a dusty track and around a banked corner.

Is this pointing to a pure casual racer starring the cast of the world's most popular mobile and social gaming franchise, or will there be some kind of momentum-building endless-runner elements stirred in (think Temple Run)?

Rovio elaborates on the forthcoming title in a blog entry, but only a little. The post reads:

"Those birds and piggies are getting ready for their most thrilling and action-packed game yet! All your favourite characters are returning for a brand new title that will bring you closer to Piggy Island than ever before. It’s Angry Birds, but not as you know it!"

Apparently there'll be more Angry Birds Go! updates over the summer.

After the somewhat mixed critical reaction to Angry Birds Friends, Rovio's Facebook-focused social take on the AB franchise, the company is evidently eager to restore the franchise to pole position.

This won't be the first time a new take on the Angry Birds universe has been introduced. Last year saw the launch of Bad Piggies, which shifted the perspective to Angry Birds's green pig antagonists and incorporated a rather more scientific vehicle-building mechanic.
