MSI has announced a mental gaming laptop that ships with beastly innards and – get this – a built-in mechanical keyboard.
The MSI GT80 Titan is the world’s very first notebook that makes use of the tech, and unsurprisingly so. It’s difficult to cram a mechanical keyboard into a laptop’s size-constrained chassis.
Sam Chern, MSI Notebook’s Marketing Director, reckons the GT80 signals a ‘new era of gaming laptop keyboards for real,’ and says the firm’s ‘very excited’ to have worked with SteelSeries on the mechanical keyboard.
“The GT80 Titan easily beats any mobile system with top level CPU and GPU graphics card you can think of, while still being a mobile system.”
It’s a bold claim, but there are assuredly solid specs to back it up. The GT80 Titan rocks an 18-inch display, with graphics pushed by an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M.
The Titan is a beefy affair too, weighing in a 4.7kg and measures in at just short of 5cm thick.
The keyboard itself is built by SteelSeries, comes equipped with Cherry switches, and also touts a backlight for added rig-swag.
Mechanical keyboards are exceptionally popular with gamers thanks to the high level of haptic feedback on offer.
Unfortunately this is all we know for now, with MSI keeping quiet on the full spec sheet, a price point, and even a release date.
It’s worth noting that the MSI GT72 2QE Dominator also uses the Nvidia GTX 980M chip, and retails for around £1,955 here in the UK – expect a similarly wallet-chunking price point for the GT80 Titan.
