Our first look at the LG WebOS TV
The first image of the LG WebOS TV interface has been leaked online, ahead of an official reveal at CES 2013.
LG is due to launch its WebOS powered TVs at a press conference at CES 2013 next week, but the first screenshot of the device has been leaked online.
Coming courtesy of the prolific tipster, @evleaks, the image suggests LG is keeping the original “cards” system of the original WebOS incarnation.
The south Korean electronics giant acquired WebOS from HP in February, 2013 and will seemingly be retaining the software’s initial layout.
From the image, we can see WebOS apps for LG TV will include YouTube, Facebook, Skype, Twitter and other services.
LG bigwigs already indicated the company is throwing a lot of weight (and money) behind the open-source JavaScript development framework.
The WebOS operating system was developed by Palm Inc to power smartphones at first. HP bought Palm and WebOS with it in 2010 and used the software in its smartphones and tablets.
However, the WebOS system failed to attract developers, but LG was drawn to the software because of the technology it contains.
LG will officially showcase the WebOS TVs at its press conference on Monday January 6, along with the recently rumoured LG G Arch smartwatch.
The LG G Arch could well offer a curved touchscreen display, similar to that featured in the LG G Flex, the first consumer available flexible smartphone.
LG could also announce a second smartwatch offering at MWC 2013, supposedly aimed as a Nike FuelBand or Fitbit Flex rival. This LG G Health smartwatch will probably be a fitness and wellbeing tracker.
