Just days after the Call of Duty: Ghosts release, publisher Activision has revealed that it will launch a new COD title in 2014.
Taking the globally dominant gaming franchise into an eleventh year, the Call of Duty: Ghosts follow-on will likely hit retailers during the early weeks of November 2014, with the publisher also confirming plans for a 2014 Skylanders launch are also in the works.
"Despite short-term uncertainties, as we look forward to 2014, we have a very strong product pipeline,” CEO Bobby Kotick announced during the company’s Q3 2013 earnings call last night.
He added: “We expect multiple new releases across our major franchises, including the first Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls, along with the PS4 version of Diablo III and significant and exciting new content for World of Warcraft.”
Looking ahead to future Call of Duty titles, Kotick stated: "We also expect to launch new Call of Duty and Skylanders titles and a major new potential franchise with Bungie's Destiny."
Although the Activision CEO failed to reveal details on the 2014 COD release’s full title, it has previously been suggested that developer Sledgehammer has already started work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, expanding one of the series’ leading sub-franchises.
Yesterday Activision claimed that it had sold a staggering $1 billion worth of Call of Duty: Ghosts games during the title’s opening day on sale.
A figure that is less clear than Activision would have you believe, this $1 billion figure, designed to replace GTA 5 as the biggest entertainment release in history, actually refers to sales made to retailers, not customers.
