Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom to arrive with 16-megapixel snapper?

Samsung is rumoured to be working on a Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom version of its flagship smartphone that packs a 16-megapixel camera.

Upgrading the Samsung Galaxy S4 camera offering of 13-megapixels, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will have a 16-megapixel rear camera, potentially offering an optical zoom too.

According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will be similar to the Samsung Galaxy Camera that was released last year. The camera packs a 16.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 21x optical zoom and is capable of capturing Full 1080p HD movies at 30fps.

However, such a camera upgrade doesn’t mean that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will be a premium version of the current Samsung Galaxy S4 flagship. In fact, Samsung will reportedly downgrade the 5-inch Full 1080p HD Super AMOLED screen with 441ppi image density of the Galaxy S4 to a 4.3-inch qHD AMOLED display for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.

The S4 Zoom will also only have 8GB of internal memory, rather than the current flagship’s 16GB, 32GB or 64GB options, but will support microSD cards up to 64GB. Running an unknown version of Android Jelly Bean and the Samsung TouchWiz Nature UX interface, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will have Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and GPS.

It is currently unknown whether the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will have a dual- or quad-core processor or how much RAM it will pack, but it will be released in June or July.

Codenamed SM-C1010, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will ship in black and white.

Samsung will also reportedly release the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, which is set to be a rugged and waterproof version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Probably influenced by the highly-rated Sony Xperia Z that introduced waterproofing without altering the aesthetic appeal, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active should be a waterproof and dustproof handset launching in July.

Also rumoured to be on the horizon is the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, the handset is rumoured to be a scaled back, more affordable version of the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Rumoured to pack a qHD 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini could have a 1.6Ghz dual-core processor under the hood and be available from July.
