Amazon UK launches digital PlayStation Store in beta

Amazon UK has launched a digital PlayStation Store, offering PSN games to download directly on your console.

You can now buy PS3, PS Vita and PS4 games on Amazon and receive a code to use on the PlayStation Network.

This will save you having to wait for a physical disc edition of the game to arrive in the post.

The Amazon UK digital PlayStation Store is currently still in a beta testing phase and as such has a rather limited selection of games, season passes and DLC content available to purchase from the site.

The new digital store follows the launch of the American PlayStation Store last month, which already has a vast amount of games and add-on content.

Unlike the UK store, the Amazon US PlayStation Store is offering small discounts on PlayStation content in comparison to the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment stores.

However, we expect the selection available from Amazon UK will grow as the service developers and exits beta testing.

Sony has always actively encouraged retailers to offer digital versions of games, with GAME and other independent retails already offering such a service.

PS4 digital games on PSN currently cost around £52.99, so it will be interesting to see how much digital PS4 games cost on Amazon UK when the service starts including them.

There was great outrage when the digital prices of PS4 games were announced, as key titles on the PS4 were more expensive than their Xbox One counterparts.

The consumer outrage at the price difference cause EA and Ubisoft to lower the prices of their PS4 digital games to match those offered in the Xbox Live store for Xbox One.

The PS4 was released on November 29 in the UK, priced at £349.
