Batman: Archam Origins tops Gaming Chart in debut week

The latest instalment to the Batman gaming franchise has landed, with Batman: Archam Origins dethroning GTA 5 atop the UK All Format Gaming Chart during its debut week on sale.

Despite having only hit retailers on Friday, October 25, the Warner Bros’ third Batman title has seen high day one sales take it to the top of the gaming sales chart for the week ending October 26. Although only achieving half the week one sales of its predecessor, the 2011 released Batman: Archam City, the latest release has done enough to claim gaming chart success.

Suffering from a 28 per cent drop in week-on-week sales, Rockstar’s GTA 5 has again lost the gaming chart crown, dropping one place to second. Rounding out the podium positions, EA Sports’ FIFA 14 has dropped one spot to third, having had its own 21 per cent week-on-week sales slump.

With no further new entries making the week’s top ten, the remainder of the improving chart positions is a familiar sight, with Skylanders Swap Force, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y all losing one place in order to make way for the new Batman title. The trio of kid-friendly games rounded out the week in positions four through to six respectively.

With Minecraft: Xbox 360 holding firm in seventh spot, LEGO: The Lord of the Rings and Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed were the week’s biggest risers. While the LEGO title saw a 266 per cent rise in week-on-week sale to jump from 19th to eighth, the latest Moshi game performed even better, with a 350 per cent sales increase taking it from 29th to ninth.

Finishing off the week’s UK All Format Gaming Chart top 10, Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2014 missed a step, dropping one place.
