Combining Sony mobile technology with an Android app interface, the Sony SmartWatch 2 has a 1.6-inch screen with a 220 x 176p resolution.

“Sony is the proud leader in the smartwatch market since introducing our first Bluetooth watch in 2007,” said Stefan K Persson, Head of Companion Products at Sony Mobile. “The future of wearable devices is incredibly bright with analyst research predicting 41 million ‘smart’ watches will be sold by 2016.”

“We have over 200 unique apps dedicated for Sony SmartWatch with over one million downloads to date and we are continuing to work with our strong developer network to deliver ever more compelling smartwatch experiences.”

Charged using a standard microUSB cable, SmartWatch 2 connects wireless using NFC pairing and allows users to access smartphone functions on their wrist.

Sony has already got 200 SmartWatch apps ready for the device when it launches in September. Users will be able to handle calls, remotely take photographs, control presentations or use mapping tools directly from the Sony SmartWatch 2.

Users can also access their emails, utilise lifestyle and fitness apps and control the smartphone’s music player using the smartwatch.

Also created to be dust resistant like the latest Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia Tablet Z and newly unveiled Sony Xperia Z Ultra, the Sony SmartWatch 2 is built with an aluminium body and a stainless steel wristband. It is compatible with any 24mm wristband so users can swap and change as they so wish.
