Motorola X Phone launch teased by leaked ad campaign?

The Motorola X Phone could launch on August 1 if a leaked ad campaign called Goodbye Moto is to be believed.

The company is understood to be undergoing some sort of rebranding, re-emerging with its new Motorola X Phone on August 1.

Labelled “pitch work for Motorola”, images for a Goodbye Moto ad campaign were posted on Behance.net by designer B.A. Bakken suggest that Motorola will undergo a period of transition, relaunching as a revitalised company.

“The Motorola that returns will not be the company you once knew. But we have some work to do”, reads one of the images. “So until we’re ready, we’re going away. No new ads or tweets. No site updates. Just silence until we begin the next chapter. Until we meet again, goodbye Moto.”

Various images on the pre-retirement Motorola adds have the date August 1 on them, while other have a countdown timer showing 37 days and 13 hours. These images were posted on June 23, meaning that they’re 38 days from August 1, which would support the idea that this date isn’t just placeholder text.

Previous Motorola X Phone renders and specs leaks have suggested an August release date for the upcoming “hero” smartphone, which also supports the ad campaign.

Motorola also said itself the X Phone would launch this summer.

A second phase of the advertising campaign was also posted online by the same designer, tagged on Behance as “rebrand”.

There is a pictured smartphone, which looks very similar to the Motorola RAZR i, emblazoned with the words “hello again”. The colour spectrum is far more vibrant than the first set of ads and could be a hint to the upcoming Motorola X Phone’s colour options.

The handset will reportedly pack a 1.7GHz dual-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a 720p HD display of unknown size.
