Google I/O: Google confirms Google Play game services with cloud save sync

Google Play game services

Save games are synced across multiple devices

Google launched the anticipated Google Play Game services at its Google I/O developer keynote today. It’s available now for all Android phones and tablets running Android ‘Froyo’ and above.

The service has three key features: a cloud save system that syncs across all your Android devices; achievement and leaderboard support using Google Circles; and multiplayer matchmaking.

Greg Hartrell, lead product manager, said: “These services help you make your games more social, with achievements, leaderboards, and multiplayer, as well as more powerful, storing game saves and settings in the cloud.”

It uses your Google account to track your progress, syncing it across all your Android devices. Games don’t have to support Google Play games services, but it’s available for all developers to use.

Several games already use the new features, including World of Goo, Super Stickman Golf 2, Beach Buggy Blitz, Kingdom Rush, Eternity Warriors 2, and Osmos.
